Get Ready To Celebrate World Book Night 2020!

The Reading Agency is planning a big digital celebration for World Book Night on the 23rd April. Read on to find out how you can take part.

With lock-down conditions still ongoing and many of us self-isolating, the Reading Agency has announced that their annual World Book Night celebration will be completely online this year! It promises to be an entertaining evening the whole family can enjoy.

World Book Night was first celebrated in 2011 and was designed to help encourage adults in the UK to read more. Of course, at the Harris, we are always looking to celebrate reading and you can still borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks online even while the library is closed!

To find out more about how to do that make sure you check out the BorrowBox digital library. The Reading Agency has also opened up registrations for free audiobooks. So, don’t worry if you’re not a keen reader you can still enjoy a good story just by listening.

5000 audiobooks are being given out on the day and while they won’t be able to give out printed books like they normally would they are still hoping to distribute them later this year.

The main event for World Book Night is the reading hour from 7 PM where everyone gets together online to either share stories about their favourite books or just to enjoy celebrating the joy of reading together. So, make sure you keep an eye out for the hashtag #ReadingHour on the day.

Other planned events include virtual parties, special broadcasts by authors and much more. So, if you want to join in make sure you follow the World Book Night Twitter page or simply visit their official website to find out more.

Right now, a good book is more important than ever and to celebrate World Book Night the Harris Library team will also be sharing their own stories about why reading is so important. So, stay tuned for that and we hope you enjoy celebrating the wonders of reading for World Book Night 2020!
