In The Harris’ collection we have many interesting cards which help us imagine how people communicated back in time.

A postcard featuring colourful embroidery.

This embroidered postcard with the words ‘with loving wishes’ dates back to World War I. 


A white and blue postcard featuring the RAF emblem.

This Christmas card from World War I was sent by an airman stationed at the Royal Air Force Station in Gloucestershire.

This embroidered postcard is from World War I and was purchased by the donor’s father in France.


A postcard featuring pictures of two people and a loving message.

This sentimental postcard from World War I depicts a girl dreaming of her soldier and was published by Bamforth & Co.


A postcard featuring a colourful embroidered butterfly.

This embroidered postcard printed ‘Souvenir de la Guerre 1914-1915, forget me not’ contains a handwritten note ‘Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from your loving son Bill’ which was sent to his mother during World War I.
